ABSTRACT
Alternative therapies for nutrition have to become an integral part of medical practice. It is essential that all the physicians fully understand the metabolism of nutrients, and the practice of nutritional support, particularly in critical care settings in which malnutrition can be present from the onset, or become apparent with frightening speed. Some reflections are made on the routes of administration of nutrients to the severely-ill patients, with emphasis on mixed (Parenteral/Enteral) nutritional support.
