Clinical behavior and therapeutic handling of patients diagnosed with facial Odontogenic Cellulitis. Central Army Hospital

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the odontogenic cellulitis is an emergency relatively frequent in the emergency services of hospitals.Objective: to characterize the patients with diagnose of facial odontogenic cellulitis according to the clinical behavior and therapeutic handling.
Material and Methods: a retrospective, descriptive study was carried out; the sample was integrated by 56 patients admitted at the Central Army Hospital "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" diagnosed with facial odontogenic cellulitis during the period 2011-2012. Variables: age, sex, severity treatment modalities and time of hospitalization were analyzed. The results are showed in frequency tables.
Results: patients among 15-24 years (39,3%), Moderate cellulitis (75%), crystalline penicillin + metronidazole (39,3%),and the most frequent time of hospitalization was between 4 to 7 days(64,3%).
Conclusions: the odontogenic cellulitis was a frequent cause of hospital admission, and its antimicrobial therapy was wide according with clinical history and specifics characteristics of patient.
