ABSTRACT
Background: Mitral valve prolapse is an inherited connective tissue disorder with myxomatous proliferation that causes thickening and redundancy of the mitral valve. Atrial and ventricular arrhythmias are common. Methods: We report the case of a female patient of 23 years scheduled for endoscopic nasal sinus surgery, finding during electrocardiogram monitoring presence of sinus rhythm with ventricular extrasystoles over ten in a minute. Results: We cancel the surgery and requested interconsultation with the cardiology department who performed echocardiography finding prolapse of the anterior mitral valve and mild tricuspid regurgitation. They prescribed atenolol and surgery is rescheduled. Conclusions:It is important that the anesthesiologist is prepared to resolve complications, especially if it is a surgery where symphatomimetic drugs are used.REFERENCES
