Relationship between Health education and impression before the dental treatment

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the anxiety and fear towards the dental treatment provoke that great parts of the population do not visit to the odontology clinic at the appropriate moment. Health education offers to population the knowledge to diminish worries and fears allowing them to attend consultation to stay healthy or to be diagnosed from oral diseases at early stages.Objective: determine the relationship between the education for health and the referred impression of patients towards dental treatment.
Material and Method: a descriptive cross sectional study was carried out to patients in the urgency dental service of the Cristóbal Labra Policlinic, Havana, 2010. A survey was applied, previous signed informed consent; the data were processed with the SPSS statistical package. The sample was integrated by 233 patients.
Results: 70,8% of the patients manifested that had received educational orientation and 46,8% referred fear. When we cross the impression before treatment and educational orientation we found a significant relationship: 59,6% of those that referred fear had not received orientation, while 58,1% of those that found it passable did had received it.
Conclusion: it is evidenced the relationship between education in health and impression before dental treatment, in the measure that patients receive these knowledge they refer to feel tolerance to the treatment.
