ABSTRACT
Anesthetic technique in the epidural space is used for both intraoperative anesthesia and analgesia and postoperative analgesia, used in most orthopedic surgeries for it is regarded as safe and effective. The technique involves inserting a catheter of a radiopaque plastic into the spine, through the ligamentum flavum, directed towards head or tail, to the epidural space. Few complication are reported in the literature and those are not frequent, such as infection, epidural hematoma arachnoiditis, paresthesia, headache and others even less common as windings, knots or cracks are reported. We present the clinical case of a 17 years patients with break and retention of an epidural catheter (Set Espicat Plus) leaving a free wound 5 cm fragment into the epidural space, who is done surgically, removing fragment by bilateral laminoplasty of the second lumbar vertebra.
