Risk factors for the consumption of alcohol and tobacco on Medicine students

ABSTRACT
Introduction: there are several studies that show an increase about the consumption of alcohol and tobacco by university students. Due to this fact studies directed to identify the risk factors related to these phenomenon are necessary.Objective: to identify the risk factors forconsumption of alcohol and tobacco.
Methods: a transversal and descriptive study with the participation of 27 students of Medicine first year from San Antonio de los Baños Municipality Medical Science School was done. AUDIT and Fagerstrom Tests as well as interview and focal group technique were used.
Results: the results obtained showed that there is a low level of risk concerned to the consumption of alcohol represented by the 87.5% of the studied individuals, meanwhile in the middle level are only included the 3.5% of the studied individuals. Fagerstrom Tests allowed obtaining as a result that the 33.3% of the studied sample presented a nicotine low dependence and the 3.5% of the studied individuals showed a middle level of dependence.
Conclusions: on the studied individuals there is a major prevalence of risk factors at individual and family levels for alcohol consumption, unlike tobaccoon which there is an increase of the risk factors al the socio-communitarian level.
