ABSTRACT
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome is a rare clinical entity originated by Staphylococcus aureus, a microorganism
that produces exfoliative toxins and can be more frequently found in children, usually under five years of age. Aparison
of this syndrome by itself or as a complication of varicella zoster virus infection can be even less frequent. Last case
described in medical literature was in 1988. In this article we present two cases 2 and 3 years old diagnosed with
varicella zoster virus infecton complicated with staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. Laboratorial analytical
techniques were inespecific and skin cultures of the lesions were positive for Staphylococcus aureus. Both cases qere
pharmacologically treated with clindamicyn and topical meassures with favorable resolution. Bacterial skin over
infections in varicella zoster virus infections are the most frequently reported complications of the disease, however
staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome is rare.
