Frequency of alterations in patients neuromuscular acquired adult critical. A comparison between clinical findings and neurophysiological

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Neuromuscular disorders in critically ill patients are entities that undertake the clinical course, prolong hospital stay, can lead to prolonged disability, the incidence is 50% or more.
Objective: To determine the frequency of polyneuropathy and myopathy in critically ill patients.
Material and methods: A descriptive case series type. Patients with mechanical ventilation > 10 days hospitalized in the ICU, without prior diagnosis suggestive of neuromuscular disease. Demographic characterization, risk factors and the correlation is described. Neuromuscular biopsy who died.
Results: Cent patients were enrolled. Main demographic characteristics: mean age (years) 55.8, 47% female gender and 53% male, 37% admission diagnoses sepsis, cardiovascular disease 13%, 10% TCE, 19.07 average hospital stay, days of mechanical ventilation 17. The frequency changes for electrophysiological study 90%, 79% by physical examination. Kappa coefficient (physical examination and electrophysiological study) with a value 0.0075 (p= 0.532) was performed for groups distribution coefficient matching laminate, which showed that despite the existence of different consistency time interval measured is low. Sixty two had sepsis or multiple organ failure. Four patients died neuromuscular biopsy was positive for myopathic commitment at all.
Conclusions: The frequency of neuromuscular pathology in ICU is high in our population, to associate physical examination and neurophysiological. Sepsis and multiple organ failure may be determinants of disease development.
