ABSTRACT
Nutritional diagnosis of the patient with Liver Cirrhosis (LC) has been dealt previously by the authors. The diagnostic quality of an algorithm combining Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) with measurement of Arm Circumference is presented in the present work. The proposed
algorithm was applied in 355 cirrhotic patients assisted at ambulatory specialized services of the hospitals where the authors work. Diagnostic quality of the proposed algorithm
was similar to that observed with other procedures relying on extensive anthropometric measurements, biochemical determinations, or the use of SGA. Given the absence of local guidelines about the nutritional assessment of
this class of patient, and the impossibility of
having specialized equipment in other environments, the algorithm proposed in this work constitutes a commendable alternative that has been validated by the authors´s experience.
