An experience of the Cuban medical brigade in The Republic of Congo. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy

ABSTRACT
Objectives: To show the initial results obtained with the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the Congolese population.
Methods: A longitudinal descriptive study of the first 42 patients was conducted to whomlaparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed by Cuban surgeons in the University Hospital Center of Brazzaville, in The Republic of Congo, from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012.
Results: During the 2 years of work, 42 attended patients underwent this type of operation. The average time spent in the surgical act was 47, 2 minutes. Patients did not present any complications and had a satisfactory evolution within thirty days following cholecystectomy.
Conclusions: With the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy by the Cuban medical brigade in The Republic of Congo, similar results to other studies we obtained which describe the beginning of this procedure in other countries.
