ABSTRACT
Objective: To evidence the behavior of patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage at the “Manuel Ascunce
Domenéch” University Hospital.
Methods: An observational, retrospective, analytic and traverse study was carried out. The sample included all patients diagnosed of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage between December of the 2007 and March of the 2010 that were
assisted in the mentioned center. By means of the statistical package SPSS 15.0, descriptive statistic,
Chi–square and logistical regression was applied.
Results: 101 patients were assisted; among them 40.59% presented an age superior to 55 years, 64.35% had a clinical gradation of I and 37.75% grade II according to the Fisher´s classification. Surgical treatment was carried out in 52 patients. 25 patients died, among them 3 had undergone surgical procedures. It was determined that high clinical grade, appearance of complications, aneurysmatic cause of the subarachnoid hemorrhage and elevation of the age, presented statistical relationship with mortality.
Conclusions: Continued improvement in the implementation of protocols is required to increase their effectiveness in relation to final results.
