Sociodemographic profile of users of the hemodialysis service at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

ABSTRACT
Chronic renal failure is a public health problem that is increasing in Mexico and elsewhere. As a tertiary hospital, the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula, offers treatment by hemodialysis. This cross-sectional study included coding and analysis of 119 socio-economic studies conducted by the Department of Social Work , in patients who are or have been users of the hemodialysis service at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula. Highlights included: 62.2% of patients is in the range of 35 to 64 years old; 60.7% of patients were married; in 43.6% of cases the responsible relative is the spouse; 73.7% had primary education or less; 40.4% of the cases speak only Mayan language; 82.7% have no paid occupation and 83.6% are in financial deficit situation. Knowing the demographic profile of patients with chronic renal failure, hemodialysis service at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula, facilitate the detection of needs and characteristics of the population served at this institution and improve planning for the care of patients with renal insufficiency.REFERENCES
