Soporte nutricional a domicilio: ¿El paradigma último de la provisión de cuidados nutricionales al enfermo?

ABSTRACT

Home Nutritional Support (HNS) has become a very attractive paradigm for the provision of nutritional care to the needed patient. Benefits of all kinds embedded into HNS have justified its inception, along with its consequent expansion, in different health systems. Currently available Artificial nutrition technology has made possible to sustain the patient’s nutritional status at home, during extended periods of time with a reduced complications rate by means of the implementation of sophisticated nutritional support schemes. However, successful operation of a HNS program requires an important recording, documenting and professional organization allowing its conduction without error and in an uninterrupted way, from-thevery- start. Philosophical and ideological foundations of a HNS program are presented in this essay, along with the involved actors andg uidelines for its implementation and conduction. In addition, evidences are given about the impact of such programs on the economy of the health systems and quality of life of the patient and their relatives.
