ABSTRACT
It was performed an intervention research with quasi-experimental design with the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the implementation of the relaxation exercises to achieve the physical recovery of students during physical education lessons. Two groups were formed: experimental and control. From a population of 41 second year Stomatology students of the Medical Science Faculty in Bayamo, through a simple sample taken at random there were selected a set of 21 and 20 students for each group; there were applied questionnaires at the beginning and at the end of the study. The data were analyzed with the Statistical program 8.0, using the methods of analysis of variance by Friedman and Kendall Coefficient of Concordance, the Kruskal-Wallis Ranks for the variable percent of physical recovery and Cochrane Q test to value the results of the questionnaires; while the statistical EPIDAT package served to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. No statistically significant differences were found at the beginning of the investigation (p = 0.07) between the two groups with 55,51 values (± 6.50) and 53.56 (± 4.90) for the per cent of physical recovery, and from lesson number a significant difference was found with 47,99 values (± 5, 91) and 47.21 (± 4, 34); at the end of the study the per cent of physical recovery was 24.24 (± 13,35) and 37,17 (± 5.30) for both groups and a value of p = 0.000. The recuperative response of students greatly improved with the use of relaxation techniques, showing that the intervention was effective.
