ABSTRACT
New trends in the global population growth have generated important
changes in cultural patterns. Together with that, new requirements in
reproductive health have emerged. For instance, it is frequent to observe
women looking for a pregnancy at the edge of optimal fertility, as well as
women with alterations in their ovarian reserve. Unfortunately, in both
circumstances the prognostic of pregnancy is poor. From this point of view,
ovocite donation is a pro-fertility alternative which is available with high
rates of success. Oocyte donation satisfies the genuine right of motherhood
and in addition, it provides an opportunity to learn more about reproductive
physiology and the irrefutable anatomical role of uterus in fertility. Current
legislation in Spain clearly points to the anonymous and altruistic sense of
oocyte donation, and states the suitability of donors and the essential laboratory
tests. Thus, the goal of the present study is to share our experience
in the egg donation procedures conducted routinely during several years
in the Unit of Reproduction Vista Hermosa in Alicante, Spain; emphasizing
the study protocol, which is congruent with the current legislation, as well
as the technical procedures, and the program achievements.
