ABSTRACT
Dengue is one of the main vector-borne diseases and has become a severe Public Health problem during the last
decade, both in Mexico and worldwide. This report analyses two decades (1990-2011) of dengue in Mexico, based on
reports published by the Ministry of Health. The data show that although the incidence rate of dengue in Mexico has
remained constant throughout the last two decades, the incidence rate for dengue hemorrhagic fever has increased
importantly since 2002 (20% of cases). Additionally, during the last decade, the increase in the incidence rate of dengue
and dengue hemorrhagic fever has shifted towards a younger population and the disease outbreaks showed a longer
duration throughout the year. We conclude that dengue is showing a changing pattern and the factors involved remain
to be analyzed. (Gac Med Mex. 2014;150:122-7)
