Scientific productivity of graduates of master's broad access in Primary Health Care

ABSTRACT
Background: the master’s degree courses belong to the process of postgraduate training, and provide university graduates with a broad scientific culture and advanced knowledge, in connection with the needs of the economic, social and cultural development of the country.Objective: to describe the performance of the scientific productivity of people with a master’s degree in primary health care, courses of broad access in a municipality of Villa Clara province 2012-2013 academic year.
Methods: a descriptive study was done in the municipality of Sagua la Grande, the universe was composed of 62 master’s degree graduates who work in primary health centers, and the sample taken was composed of 53 people, through a non-probabilistic sampling by criteria.Theoretical and empirical methods were used, as well as mathematical.
Results: according to the master’s degree course selected, the one about Integral Care to Women was the one that took the largest number for the sample, and the ”Idalberto Revuelta” Clinic was the unit with the highest percentage of graduates. The sample was characterized by a low scientific productivity, which is evident in the low index of participation in events, and of publications. The prevailing teaching rank in the sample was instructor, followed by professionals without any teaching rank. Only seven people from the sample had given postgraduate courses in the period.
Conclusions: these figures show the deficient indicators of scientific productivity of graduates in the master’s degree courses of broad access in primary health care.
