ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum is a serious cardiac malformation. Its unfavorable results constitute a true challenge for modern medicine.
Objective: The investigation seeks to specify, by means of echocardiography, the existence of left ventricular dynamic filling anomalies in this illness.
Methods: Were studied forty three patients sent to Cardiocentro Pediatrico “William Soler” between January, 1992 and November, 2011. The profiles of twelve mitral flow parameters were evaluated by pulsed wave doppler echocardiography in each patient. Linear regression models analyzed association and dependence levels of two defined parameters regarding left ventricular volumetric and mass indexes.
Conclusions: Pathological changes of atrial peak velocity, mitral E/A ratio, time velocity integrals and some left ventricular filling time intervals were found. The linear regression models showed dependence of the indexes studied regarding mitral diastasis. The existence of left ventricular restrictive diastolic anomalies in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum was confirmed. Left ventricular volumetric overload produces anomalous mitral diastasis.
