ABSTRACT
A descriptive and retrospective study of 134 patients with acute myocardial infarction discharged from the Intensive Care Unit of "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from 2005 to 2010, with the objective of determining the death rate and lethality for this disorder, as well as to relate the lethality due to risk factors. In the series, the ventricular fibrillation constituted the main cause of death. The risk of dying in the Intensive Care Unit was
associated with risk factors such as advanced age, smoking habit and deep physiologic changes with their personal histories.
