ABSTRACT
Introduction: suicides have the tendency to show certain regularity in its localization through over time, however, this process is not considered as a risk or protection of the problem.
Objective: the present work was carried out to follow the temporally course of the phenomenon at Chiapas, Mexico and to assess its efficacy as a risk factor.
Methods: the suicides from 1990 to 1996 and the ones from 2000 to 2005 were recorded through the local newspapers and the Forensic Medical Service.
Results: there was obtained a total of two hundred and sixty-one suicides on the e periods from 1990 to 1996 and four hundred twenty three from the period. On both periods the occurrence of suicides prevailed in the first semester of the year anda reduced amount of suicides occurred from November to January; there was a difference according to the seasons. During the week the suicides were more common on Sundays, meanwhile during the day the suicides prevailed on the second part of the day (12 – 24 hours) and primary between the 18th and 22nd .
Conclusions: as risk of factors for suicide at Chiapas can be considered the first hours of the evening, Sundays and the first semester of the year due to the fact that these factors remained constantly over the time of fifteen years. The immigration of the traditional rural society because of poverty and misemploy seems to gibe place to the loss of the seasonal nature on suicides.
