ABSTRACT
The influenza virus is a RNA virus that belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae
family. This virus shows high mutation ability and is responsible for many
respiratory diseases. It also represents a high emerging pandemic risk.
During 2009, an outbreak of influenza A H1N1 variety featured by specific
recombination pig-bird-human, occurred with an epidemiological
focus in Mexico. The World Health Organization (WHO) categorized
this outbreak as an imminent pandemic disease, due to many cases that
were recorded within the country and abroad. In the present study, we
report the epidemiological monitoring of four years of molecular diagnosis
of influenza B and the different strains of influenza A, using the reverse
transcription and real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR One
Step) technique. The results show that cases of influenza A H1N1 have
decreased as compared to 2009, when the outbreak started; however,
the risk of outbreaks of other variants does exist in the winter months.
