ABSTRACT
Introduction: Education at work becomes an essential aspect to make the connection between the theoretical content of Pharmacology II and the medical practice that is carried out in different scenarios. Objective: To identify the main shortcomings in integrating the content of Pharmacology II with education at work activities in medical undergraduate studies.
Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine of Villa Clara during the academic year 2011-2012. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, as well as statistical procedures.
Results: There is no explicit reference to the methodological guidelines for achieving the integration between the content of Pharmacology II and education at work activities in the syllabi reviewed, in the subjects’ teaching staff, or the academic year teaching staff. Pharmacology teachers do not participate systematically in education at work activities. The system of teaching tasks is not considered as the essential aspect for the development of prescriptive skills.
Conclusions: There are difficulties in linking the contents of the subjects Pharmacology II and Internal Medicine during the implementation of education at work activities. The most important difficulties were: no teaching tasks are designed to exploit the full potential of Pharmacology for a rational and scientific use of drugs; and the methodological work of the teaching staff of these subjects and the academic year teaching staff does not guarantee a correct link between the subjects studied.
