ABSTRACT
Objectives: Our aim was to relate conjugal dysfunction with reason for visit in over-user patients who attended a Family Health Care Center. Design: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, and comparative study. Materials and Methods: A nonrandomized, non-representative sample of 80 subjects considered as over-user patients in accordance with pre-established criteria were included. Their patient medical records were reviewed to identify main reason for visit and number of visits per year. By means of evaluation to determine conjugal dysfunction, these patients were classified as with or without marital dysfunction; later, this was related with reason for visit. Results: Average number of visits made by over-user patients was eight per year. On applying evaluation for detection of marital dysfunction, functional couples comprised 58.8%, those with moderate conjugal dysfunction, 40%, and only one couple, severe dysfunction. With respect to moderate marital dysfunction, we observed that 73.8% seen at the clinic attended due to poorly defined symptoms and signs, while 12.5% of functional couples attended to obtain a medical work disability certificate. Conclusions: We identified the over-user patient profile in addition to reasons for visit, with conjugal functioning demonstrating a significant difference as compared with dysfunctioning couples, the majority of whom attended as the result of poorly defined signs and symptoms, while functional couples came to the Family Health Care Center to obtain a medical work disability certificate.REFERENCES
