ABSTRACT
Gastric cancer is a disease with high incidence and mortality in Costa Rica for what constitutes a public health problem. Helicobacter pylori infection seems to be the centerpiece in the pathophysiology of the disease because it induces an intense inflammatory response in the host and participates in the activation of different signal transduction mechanisms, such as NFκB, MAPK / ERK, Wnt / β-catenin and Sonic Hedgehog - Gli (Shh), involved in the development of molecular and structural alterations of the gastric epithelium that provide sustenance for carcinogenesis.
