ABSTRACT

Wound management and suture material is an issue that was mentioned from the earliest records of medicine. In the Smith papyrus (sixteenth century BC) refers to the suture material. In a letter from the “Hippocratic” mentioned as if they approach the edges of a clean wound, it heals rapidly. There is a wide variety of surgical techniques in facial and nasal surgery, which is based on the placement of stitches, so it is vital to know the characteristics of each type of material. The aim of this study is to compare and study the characteristics of different types of suture, besides its application in the main surgical techniques. Because of these we made a systematic search of information. But according to reports in the literature we found that due to the large number of variants in the procedures described, we cannot consider any technique as the only or ideal, as we individualize each patient management, in addition to not knowing and mastering only one of them, so that in this way can provide optimal results to the patient.
