ABSTRACT
Objective: to compare the clinical ephicacy of Triclosan vs Clorhexidine on adult patients with Active Periodontal Disease. Introduction: CHX effectiveness against plaque control and gingivitis overwhelms the Alumina Lactate. Antibacterial substances effectiveness when applied to a biofilm of plaque is based on the adhesion and absorption of active ingredients on tooth and gum for a longer period. Triclosan has proved a reduction on dental infections, caries and periodontal disease, as well as in common oral conditions like halitosis and tartar. Gingivitis reduction by irrigation may be related to a specific bacterial reduction on plaque and the amount of toxic products. Methods: 22 patients were divided on three groups Clorhexidine (12), Triclosan (6), and physiologic solution (5, control group). Apparently healthy patients with no or controlled systemic disease and smokers that had periodontal disease on different grades with at least one active pocket (suppuration) and collutory administration previous to the phase 1 periodontal therapy. Periodontal indexes after 7 and 14 days without periodontal treatment were taken after those the first phase of periodontal treatment with oral flushing continued and a third evaluation of indexes was taken after 21 days. Results: the 22 patients concluded the study with remarkable clinical parameters changes on the suppuration level on which all control group patients presented any suppuration level. Clorhexidine had no severe suppuration and triclosan group had no dentary organ with moderate or severe suppuration. Discussion: rathe as other authors mention that there is an improve on clinical parameters of suppuration on the Triclosan and Clorhexidine groups with severe grade of suppuration on the last measurements of his study, also explains that triclosan significantly reduce the moderate swollowing level.
