Hypoplasia of maxillary sinus in an octogenarian patient. Case presentation

ABSTRACT
Background: the unilateral hypoplasia of the maxillary sinus is a rare desease. It is more frequent in individuals during the fourth life decade or more. It may appear as an anomaly of the development or due to the interruption of aeration of the maxillary sinus. The CT scan lets perform the certainty diagnosis and is used for presurgical assessment of the affection. The case presented may be cataloged as a curiosity in the medical practice for the diagnosis of the hypoplasia in the maxillary sinus is infrequent in patients over forty years. Case presentation: An 84 year old patient with facial algia, rinorrhea and nasal closure of several months is ordered a CT scan of the perinasal sinuses with a diagnosis of hyploplasia of the right maxillary sinus type II. Conclusion: the patient was ordered a surgical treatment for hypoplasia of the maxillary sinus, but was postponed for individual criterion due to his age.REFERENCES
