ABSTRACT
Acetabular fractures affect the major weight-bearing joint . The management for these injuries requires the experience of the Orthopedic surgeon who must be trained in the field as a subspecialty in pelvic trauma surgery. The radiologic evaluation is mandatory for classification and therapeutic purposes. Factors such as patient’s age, osteoporosis, systemic injuries and the fracture complexity, the correct diagnosis and adequate management are determinant in the final outcome. An accurate classification is necessary to achieve a correct diagnosis, and to plan the right surgical procedure the most common classification system is Emile Letournel’s, who described 10 fractures types in 2 main groups. The diagnosis is made with simple X-rays and plain and multiplanar computed tomography, including 3D modality which are described in this paper.
