ABSTRACT
Facial nerve schwannomas are rare benign tumors, the first facial nerve schwannoma case ever known was reported by Schmidt in 1930, and since then there have been only a few hundred cases described. We report a case of a 49-year-old male who presented with left aural fullness of 2 years evolution, left-sided progressive facial nerve paralysis of year and a half duration, left tinnitus and postural instability of 2 months duration which was triggered by cephalic movements and palpation of the retroauricular region accompanied by left hemicraneal pain of occipital predominance. On physical exploration we encountered left otoscopy with white mass protruding the external ear canal and moderate to profound left conductive hearing loss in low frequencies. Tympanometry on left ear shows Jerger type As impedance curve with 0.9 cc3 external ear canal volume. The computed tomography shows isodense image that occupies left mastoid, jugular fossa, middle ear and external ear canal. Magnetic resonance imaging shows hyperintense image in coronal sections in T1 signal occupying left middle ear, mastoid and jugular fossa.REFERENCES
