ABSTRACT
Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess syndrome is an emerging disease. Initially was described in the Asiatic southeast, especially in Taiwan, and recently isolated cases have been reported in other countries including Mexico. It is caused by
Klebsiella pneumoniae with hipermucoviscosity phenotype associated with K1 phenotype and the presence of rmpA and MagA. We present the case of a 58 years old patient, with diabetes mellitus who developed fever, general malaise and abdominal pain in upper right quadrant. Abdominal computed tomography showed a hipodense image in segment 1 of the liver compatible with liver abscess. In cultures grew Klebsiella pneumoniae with hipermucoviscosity phenotype. The patient responded favorably to the management with drainage of the abscess and antibiotic therapy with ceftriaxone and amykacine. The
Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess syndrome should be considered in the differential diagnosis protocol of liver abscess.
