Subprosthesis stomatitis in patients with prostheses over two years of use

ABSTRACT
Introduction: subprosthesis stomatitis is the most frequent alteration in rehabilitated patients with prostheses, multicausal, which makes its study complex, moreover, its prognosis.Objective: to determine the frequency of subprosthesis stomatitis in rehabilitated patients for more than two years.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, transversal and prospective study was carried out at "Andrés Ortiz Junco" Dental Clinic of Guines municipality, Mayabeque province. The study population consisted of 111 patients, older than 15 years, of both sexes, who went to consultation in the period from January 2010 to March 2012, they were prosthesis bearers for over two years and showed signs of subprosthesis stomatitis. A form was designed to collect information with variables such as age, sex, location and gravity degree of the lesion.
Results: females predominated with respect to males in 69.37%. Groups 35-59 and 60 and over are the most representative with 43.24% and 45.05% respectively. The lesion occurred more often in the mandible for a 89.19% compared to the mandible 16.22%. Grade I predominated (48.65%) followed by grade II (39.64%). Grade III was the least representative with 11.71%.
Conclusions: females were the most affected and the age group of 60 and over. Grade I predominated and the mandible was the most common site.
