ABSTRACT
Ambulatory surgery is could be defined as any diagnostic or therapeutic procedure under general or local anesthesia or sedation. Which requires a short-stay hospitalization (day surgery). The International Association for Ambulatory Surgery suggest that the procedure should not be urgent, in a working day not more longer than 12 hours from de admission service, surgical procedure and postoperative recovery period. Ambulatory thoracic surgery has important potential benefits, lower risk of cancellation, intrahospital infectious rates, reduce intrahospital length stay, reduce intrahospital cost, and increase the patient satisfaction. Since 1991 the thoracic ambulatory procedures (mediastinoscopy) has a very important increase. The surgeons are continually trying more complex procedures with good results, always performed safely and effectively in ambulatory surgery units. The objective of this study is put under consideration if could be possible start with and ambulatory thoracic project in a public and private hospitals in México.
