ABSTRACT
Depression and insomnia are disorders with significant prevalence in the Mexican population, both can occur during pregnancy. The aim was to test the relationship between the presence of insomnia and depression in pregnant women in the city of Merida, Yucatan. This was attended by 50 women with at least two months pregnant, to whom we applied two tests: Insomnia Questionnaire, consisting of 43 items with dichotomous response format, and the Beck’s Depression Inventory of 21 items Likert response format. The applications were made prior to obstetric consultation participants. It was found that 50% of the sample had insomnia during pregnancy, and 10% before pregnancy. With respect to depression, 16% of the sample was found to have depression. It was found that insomnia before pregnancy may be a risk factor for the presence of depression during pregnancy.
