ABSTRACT
The objective of this report was to present a clinical case of Ewing’s sarcoma, neuroepithelioma peripheral variety, with clinical course of radicular and spinal cord associated with an intratumural abscess. It is a young man of 16 years-old, without important medical history. Clinical onset began a month before admission with pain located at dorsal region, of moderate to strong severity that gradually increases and exacerbated with Valsalva maneuver; also, he felt sensation of tingle in lower limbs. Two days before admission patient had lower limbs weakness urinary sphincter dysfunction. Neurological exam showed a conscious and oriented patient, with evidence of a sensitive level at T8, flaccid paraparesis 2/5 with right predominance, and areflexia. Magnetic resonance imaging was carried out with gadolinium, finding a lesion in dorsal paravertebral region. Biopsy of the surgical material revealed a tumor with round blue cells compatible with Ewing’s sarcoma, variety peripheral neuroepithelioma. In conclusion, even when the Ewing’s sarcoma is recognized as the second one neoplasia more frequent in pediatric age, the peripheral neuroepithelioma is an uncommon variant in clinical practice; its clinical course with spinal cord compression syndrome is exceptional, even more because its coexistence with abscess of the tumor.
