ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ramsay Hunt syndrome was first described in 1907; it is a disease of viral etiology based on the reactivation of varicella-zoster virus. It is characterized by varying degrees of the facial nerve with an erythematous vesicular rash that affects the inner, middle and external ear. Objective: To analyze the clinical findings, mode of presentation and level of infection of Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Material and methods: We present 12 cases with Ramsay Hunt clinical condition with facial injuries and otic labyrinths of varying degrees (three men and nine women, age range: 22-68 years) who were admitted to the Neurology Service. Patients received 1,000 mg of acyclovir during the first seven days and 600 ms OV for three more weeks. Results: All patients (100%) presented with peripheral facial palsy condition IV degree of the scale of Swanson, which dropped to 75%, grade I (nine patients) for three months. Conclusion: Without doubt, the shorter time between diagnosis and treatment is crucial for better results of facial condition.REFERENCES
