ABSTRACT
Introduction: the pathogenesis of nauseas and vomiting in the postoperative period
is not defined, but its multifactorial character is known.
Objective: to determine the association between the risk factors of nauseas and
vomiting with medications, such as: ondansetron, dexamethasone and droperidol in
the patients after the open cholecystectomy.
Methods: an analytical study of 93 affected and surgically treated patients was carried
out in "Armando Enrique Cardoso" General Hospital at Guáimaro, Camagüey, from
January, 2011 to the same month of 2012. The case material was distributed into 3
study groups (ON, DEX and DR), according to the medication prescribed to them.
Results: the risk factors associated with nauseas and vomiting during the
postoperative period were the female sex, non smokers, general anesthesia with good
prevention and the use of ondansetron, as well as the moderate emetic risk according
to Apfel stratification.
