ABSTRACT
Objectives: The Postraumatic Syndrome is a very frequent complication of the mild cerebral trauma with a high social
cost. The study of this topic has not been treated in depth in Cuba, we develop the present study guided to determine the
behaviour of these condition taking as parameters the time of hospitalization, the persistent symptoms and the period
of reincorporation to work.
Material and method: We carried out a descriptive study of 94 patients admitted by mild
cerebral trauma at the Teaching Hospital “Manuel A Doménech” in Camagüey during the first semester of the year
2006 which were interviewed in their home in the period from 3 to 6 months after the discharge to determine the time
of hospitalization, the persistent symptoms and the period of reincorporation to work. We used distribution of frequencies.
Results: 40.4% of the admitted patients required more than 7 days of hospitalization, 43.6% of the sample presented
functional sequels and 35,8% of the individuals with work activity were reinstated between 1 and 3 months after the
traumatism.
Conclusions: An important number of the patients with mild cerebral trauma requires hospitalization for
more than 72 hours, they suffer persistent functional symptoms for several months and similar periods of work rest that
which denotes the high social repercussion of this variety of cerebral trauma.
