Severe herpetic gingivostomatitis in patients with special health care needs: Case report

ABSTRACT
Gingivostomatitis is periodontal disease is not caused exclusively of bacterial origin, if unable to be caused by other agents. Within the main viral infections that cause gingivitis, are the herpes viruses, herpes virus type 1 and 2, and herpes varicella zoster. These viruses enter the body through direct contact with secretions and have periods of latency and reactivation. It is very important to create awareness in oral health professionals for diagnosis and appropriate management of these patients.
