ABSTRACT
Background: lesions of the meniscus of the knee are a very frequent disease nowadays. The disease varies according to the cause that produces it.
Objective: to show the behavior of patients with lesions of the meniscus of the knee.
Method: a descriptive, observational study was conducted in 42 patients with the clinical and arthroscopic diagnosis of lesion of meniscus. The patients were treated at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital in Camaguey between October 1st and March 31
th, 2013.
Results: the degenerative lesions of meniscus predominated. The average age of the patients with traumatic lesions was of 32.6 years and the average age of the patients with a degenerative cause was of 54.2 years. The most frequent type of tear was the degenerative one. Partial meniscectomy was the most practiced technique.
Conclusions: the behavior of patients with lesions of meniscus is variable according to the cause that provokes it.
