Bacillus cereus in catheter- associated bacteremia and acute pancreatitis in cancer patient of tertiary care pediatric hospital

ABSTRACT

Bacillus cereus bacteremia is uncommon and is associated with cancer or immunocompromised patients. We report the case of a girl with catheter-related bacteremia by B. cereus after chemotherapy in an outpatient with a history of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and severe neutropenia. The risk factors identified in the patient agree with those reported in the literature, a history of leukemia, immunocompromise, neutropenia, catheter extended stay. Conclusion: The evolution of the patient determines the need to assess the early initiation of antimicrobial therapy.
