ABSTRACT
A pedagogical conception about how to teach and to learn medicine, inspired in Professor Fidel Ilizastigui legacy in medical education, was presented. It may be applied to other health professions and even to other factual areas of knowledge. Its core is declared as the interaction of students with the object of knowledge to be learned; as to the medical sciences, the real settings where the process of health care takes place through the "teaching-assistance integration" process. It is not possible to learn any skill, dexterity or adequate behavior just by attending lectures, reading textbooks or by participating in sporadic clinical demonstrations. The student should learn in interaction with the object, under the professional and professorial monitoring and the study demanded by practice. The relationship among the teaching, the research and the medical practices should respond to integration led by the human activity in the changing social practice. The fundamental thing is the formation of students on the basis of the real-life practice and the professional work as s source of learning and education, supplemented with coherent study activities. The concept of education at work was defined, what does it mean and what does it not; its scope as a strategy and as a teaching method. The functions and the materialization of this educational concept in the system of skills and behaviors to be developed by the learners were defined.REFERENCES
