ABSTRACT
Distal humeral fractures account for 2% of all fractures, and about 30% of humeral fractures. The first treatment standard is immobilization, which results are remarkably poor. Diverse kinds of proximal humeral fracture surgery treatments showed limited results, due to inappropriate procedures, as well as to prolonged immobilization. In the 1980s, thanks to the appearance of the techniques proposed by the Orthopedic Association (AO), a very important improvement of surgical techniques was achieved; this was done through reduction and stable fixation, by the application of two 90
o-perpendicular plates in the injured bone. The objective of this report is to provide the functional results of the treatment of a humeral supra-intercondylar fracture, treated by osteosynthesis with two plates and screws, as well as by an early rehabilitation, obtaining functional results, acceptable in the medium term. To conclude, the results obtained in our patient suggest the use of plates, aiming for anatomical reduction as a stable fixation system. This technique must be associated to a rehabilitation program.
