ABSTRACT
Background: Aeromonas species cause intestinal and extraintestinal infections in humans. Phenotypic methods do not
always allow to identify them correctly.
Objective: To identify a group of genetically engineered strains of
Aeromonas spp. isolated mainly from children with intestinal
and extraintestinal infections.
Material and methods: The 69 strains of this study were previously isolated and identified in the National Institute of Pediatrics
for the MicroScan Walk Away system 96 (W/A 96). The 69 strains were re-identified using the method of RFLP-PCR
of 16S rDNA gen.
Results: There was found a very poor correlation percent between both methods (28.9%).
Aeromonas caviae
was the most isolated. The lower correlation between phenotypic and genotypic method was to identify
A.
caviae and
Aeromonas hydrophila with the system MicroScan W/A 96.
Conclusions: The results show the need to use the genetic approach to recognize the identity of species
that cause diseases in the Mexican population and thus provide clear data on the epidemiology of this genus.
