ABSTRACT

Introduction: the epidemiological control of general mortality and its selected causes in a municipality is a complex statistical process that hinders their realization in a manual way.
Objective: to design software application to facilitate the calculation of the indicators related with the general and specific mortality due to chronic illnesses and other damages to health.
Methods: a programming in Excel was made, that allowed the entrance of data about the mortality including the following ones: sex, age, Communities, health area, main causes of death and the place of death. It also has data validation. The software facilitated the making of charts of data using conditional function, which allowed calculating the mortality by the mentioned data, the calculation for every month and the pondered rates. It carried out the calculation of the years of life potentially lost in a general way and for selected causes.
Results: the use of this software allowed knowing in an immediate and precise way the rate of monthly and points out general mortality, its behavior according to referred variables and years of life potentially lost, as well as these same indicators for the main causes of death due to non-transmitted chronic diseases, the accidents and the suicide.
Conclusions: this tool also allowed making an accurate monthly health abstract of the chronic non-transmitted disease and other damages to the health, problems of health were identified, and it represented a source of investigations and trainings, it also allowed the evaluation of programs and the decision made by managers.
