ABSTRACT
Until 2004, the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was studied in Havana, at the Julio Díaz National Rehabilitation Hospital, which later became the National Rehabilitation Center. The first specialists from around the country studied in that institution. From the year 2005 on, and as a result of the need for more professionals to work in the Revolution’s Program called “Making the Future”, which was aimed at building Integral Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centers in all municipalities of Cuba, the study of the specialty was authorized in different provinces. This article explains the background to this task, unprecedented at the provincial level, the initial difficulties for the development of the program, the successes achieved and the solutions that are being carried out, which has enabled a satisfactory performance and optimal preparation, with the relevance required for the function of the future Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist in Primary Health Care.REFERENCES
