ABSTRACT
Linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis is characterized by the progressive appearance during the first two years of life of linear and whorled hyperpigmentation following Blaschko lines, without previous inflammatory events. The histologic examination shows an increased diffuse hyperpigmentation of the basal layer of the epidermis and prominent or vacuolation of melanocytes, with no pigment incontinence or dermal melanophages. This condition must be differentiated from
incontinentia pigmenti, early systematized epidermal nevus, hypomelanosis of Ito and chimerism or mosaicism.
We present the case of a patient with congenital linear and whorled hypermelanosis.
