ABSTRACT
Objective: To present the results and qualities of outpatient laser surgery as a therapy for superficial
venous insufficiency of the pelvic limbs diagnosed by ultrasound.
Methods: Retrospective, longitudinal database files in Excel, in a period of 3 years from May 2006 to
December 2009 diagnosed with superficial venous insufficiency by ultrasound and classified with
CEAP treated with ambulatory endovenous laser procedure.
Results: From May 2006 to December 2009, we treated 121 patients of 173 limbs, 103 women and 18
men, aged 20 to 83 years with a mean of 55.4 years, diabetes mellitus 14.6%, and hypertension 13.2%.
Classification of 121 patients using CEAP: C 2 .8%, C 3 4.1%, 40% C 4, C 5 19% and 35.6% C 6. Recanalization
2 limbs, recurrent ulcers 3 limbs, we had no mortality or major complications.
Conclusions: Endoluminal Laser surgery is an effective procedure in the short and long term, can be
performed safely in ambulatory surgery units, and have a great advantages in postoperative pain, aesthetic
and wound complications compared with traditional phlebectomy-saphenectomy, and no doubt
about success is based on the use of ultrasound in all stages of treatment of patients, their results depend
largely on the skill and diagnostic capability that has the surgeon with this imaging study.
