ABSTRACT
We communicate the case of a 21 year-old man with a nine-month
history of progressive right nasal obstruction, frontal headache,
hyposmia and swelling in right maxillary region. In the CT scan
it was observed a heterogeneous isodensity, occupying the right
maxillary sinus with extension into the ipsilateral nostril. Biopsy
with neuroendocrine markers (synaptophysin and chromogranin)
reported myxoid chondrosarcoma. A partial medial maxillectomy
with total resection of the lesion was performed. There is not evidence
of recurrence after 3-year follow-up. Chondrosarcoma is
a rare neoplasm, representing only 0.1% of all malignant tumors
that occur in the head and neck. The treatment of choice is surgical
resection because this neoplasm does not response to chemo- and
radiotherapy. The 5-year survival is 40%.
