ABSTRACT
Background. Trichoblastoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm of the
skin, which may develop de novo as well as in association with other
proliferations, mostly with nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn (NSJ): It
is relevant to know about this rare neoplasia because of it is easily
mistaken with basal cell carcinoma (BCCA).
Methods. This is an observational and retrospective study performed
at a skin pathology laboratory in order to collect a series of
cases that could give some information about its frequency and/or
features of presentation in our society.
Results. We were able to collect 6 cases of trichoblastoma during
the last 6 years, one of them of the adamantoid type, to our
knowledge this is the only series in our country: all of them were
adults, ages from 21 to 76 years, three men and three woman, all
of them presented as papules o nodules and the clinical diagnosis
was not done in any case, five on the head and one on the thigh;
in no one of the cases the clinical diagnosis was trichoblastoma.
Microscopically they showed aggregations of neoplastic epithelial
cells with scant cytoplasm and prominent nuclei, raising structures
that resemble bulbs and follicular papillae, with a fibrillar stroma
rich in fribrocytes.
Conclusions. In our population trichoblastoma is as rare as it is
in other human groups and presents itself with similar features,
except for the fact that we were not able to find any series of it in
association with NSJ.
