ABSTRACT
A 22 year old man presented with a left orbital lesion of insidious
growth during 10 months and comfortless sensation. Pathologic
Anatomy Division received an ovoid lesion of 4 × 2.5 × 2 cm which
had multiple cavities of smooth wall at cut. Histologically the cysts
were covered by cubic epithelium disposed in a single or double
layer with a distinctive apocrine apical secretion. Chronic inflammation
foci were identified in the wall.
Dacryops, also known as lacrimal duct cyst, is a rare entity with a
two-step pathogenesis: the development of an osmotic gradient
and an obstruction, both of them a consequence of an inflammatory
process. The lesion can appear at the site of major lacrimal gland or
at the accessory glands of Wolfring or Krause. Diagnosis is based
on anatomical and histological findings.
